My friend and I paddled out a few hundred yards below Zach Sheerer and his friend that got attacked.
Just them two.

Shortly after his friend got attacked by a 12ft plus shark.
He happened to lift up his feet as he went over the wave and the sharked attacked his board. Throwing him off. The shark them came from below between his feet trying to attack him more. He was able to kick the shark and fight him off which is incredible.
My friend and I did not see this happen because of the amount of waves from the hurricane swell and a rock out cropping blocking the view.
No one knew we were just a few hundred yards below them.
Everything was normal and we continued to surf not knowing what had happened.
To surf these spots you climb or jump off a low cliff, and paddle to the edge of reef which is the edge of a giant bay.
At 5:35pm I noticed lights flashing from a life guard truck, but thought maybe someone got cut up on the cliff.
There were no people out, just my friend and I at this point in time. We were separated. He was up the point and I surfed wide, right next to a huge boat channel in dirty water with zero visibility.
I was already freaked out every time I caught a wave. I paddled through the waves after each ride never wanting to be any closer to the boat channel for a smoother paddle out.
The bay and channel is crazy deep, no waves will break there no matter how big the waves are.
At 5:40 my friend paddled to me, and in my mind I was going to tell him at 5:45 let’s look for one in so we’re in by 6pm.
Right at that moment my friend noticed someone waving at us from the cliff, which was a decent amount away. We could not see his face.
I saw his red windbreaker lifeguard jacket.
At that moment I knew this was absolutely not good.
Lifeguards are not stationed at the cliff, and he was making a concerted effort to grab our attention.
Thank goodness we saw him as the direction he was at you would for the most part never look.
We tried to paddle over the shallow part of the reef, but I knew that area was still not much safer.
A random guy on the cliff was filming is, or possibly the scenery of the bay.
I was hoping he was not filming us being stalked by a shark.
We were probably still too far away for the lifeguard to call out where one could be, but I was hoping he would point at least.
At the same time I contemplated that maybe he would not point right away so we would not freak out.
Before the edge of the cliff there is another mild deep spot.
We made it in and found out what had happened.
Right before we noticed the lifeguard my friend said he saw something but was unclear what it was. I only found this out once we were on land.
I’m so grateful Zach and his friend made it out of there safe.
I’m so grateful they called 911 or the lifeguards never would have come.
So thankful they called lifeguards worked overtime I assume and also came to the other look out point to see if anyone was there which was us.
